Parking in cities continues being any driver’s worse nightmare, that is until the arrival of Parkpoolr.
Today as the population soars to new heights, so does the need for parking and the problems that come along with it. In fact, in most cases in cities, parking has become a horrendous and expensive experience for many. On the other hand, this same horrible problem is what prompted University of Minnesota Student Jackson Lefebvre and his friend Landon Butterworth from the University of Manitoba to take on the challenge of changing how city-parking is done.
Combining technology with conventional city-parking business practices, Lefebvre and Butterworth founded the startup Parkpoolr. Parkpoolr is an online website marketplace platform that connects drivers who are looking for parking with people, usually homeowners and businesses, with available/extra parking space that they are willing to rent out. Essentially, in the midst of a bustling city of high traffic and no parking space, Parkpoolr finds and provides customers a variety of places to park. These places mainly consist of residential areas and extra spaces in the parking lots of businesses.
The innovation of Parkpoolr truly shines best when there is a sports event taking place in the city. Parking in the city is already difficult, trying to find nearby parking on game-day is nearly impossible. However, Parkpoolr solves this problem by letting game-goers “book” parking spaces ahead of time, alleviating the high stresses of trying to find parking and allowing for the full enjoyment of whatever game is taking place at ease.
At the end of the day, Lefebvre and Butterworth aim to solve the main issue of the growing parking crises. It’s just that at the same time, they also plan to help benefit local homeowners and businesses by bridging them with those of whom who are venturing into the city, one parking slot at a time.
